Memorial to Soviet troops

Memorial to Soviet troops

Walking away from Parisier Platz on the backside of the Brandenburg Gate, you go down a large street through Tiergarten Park. On one side, there was a memorial to the 2,000 Soviet troops who died during the Battle of Berlin in 1945. The Soviets built the memorial later that year, and handed it over to the German government in 1990 after reunification. Berlin has a pretty crazy history. I can’t imagine walking around a city in the US and stumbling up on a memorial in another language.
